67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day

In 2015 Jeppe Girls made 695 blankets as a participant in the 67 blankets for Nelson Mandela Day Guinness World Record for the largest handmade blanket in the world. The SA blanket made at the Union Buildings last year measured 3377 square metres. The blankets were donated to the needy before the winter cold set in.
This record was broken on Sunday 31st January by a group of women in Chennai, India. Their finished blanket was 11 148 square metres (which is about the size of one and a half football fields!)
South Africa want the record back and will attempt to break it on 22nd April at Drakenstein in the Western Cape. The record attempt includes crochet blankets and not knitted blankets.
Jeppe Girls have taken up the challenge once again and are aiming to crochet 670 blankets by early April. You helped us before and we need your help again. Crocheted blankets need to be single bed size โ€“ approximately 180cmx150cm. They can be delivered to Mrs Heming in Reception.
