Meet John Motsuenyane, a proud supporter of the Je

Meet John Motsuenyane, a proud supporter of the Jeppe Girls Flower Show. In 2018 John started selling flowers to Jeppe Girls on the pavement on Roberts Avenue. In 2019 he was approached to sell flowers within the school, as a service to parents and girls who do not have transport to get to flower markets.

John shares his passion and knowledge of flowers with our Grade 8 girls by teaching them how to do arrangements in preparation for the Annual Flower Show and he sets up his pop-up flower market at school for our Jeppe Girls as they prepare to create their master-pieces for the show.

John started working with flowers at the age of 14, soon after he started doing bouquets. He learnt how to do floral arrangements under the mentorship of Mr Stein Smith. John owns the Terminal Flower Market in Primrose at 55 Rietfontein Road. He exports flowers to Colombia and Kenya to mention but a few countries.

Jeppe High School for Girls is proud to be associated with this gentle community entrepreneur who has also committed to restoring our much loved Jeppe rose gardens at the front of the school.

Julia Davies participated in the Eight Mile (12.8k

Julia Davies participated in the Eight Mile (12.8km) event hosted at the Midmar Dam Nature Reserve. The 8 mile event was held over a 3 day period which saw Julia and her sister Caitlyn (Jeppe Old Girl) swim 4 miles (6.4km) on Thursday 8 February, 4 miles on Friday 9th February and then 1 mile (1.6km) on Saturday 10th February.

Despite swimming 8 times the distance of the other Jeppe swimmers, Julia was the first Jeppe Swimmer out the water, with a time of 29.40 minutes at
the 1 mile event on Saturday.

In addition to this stellar performance, Julia used this event to raise not only awareness of cancer but also a total of R10 000 for the Cancer Association.

We as a school are extremely proud of your performance at Midmar 2024, and we are humbled by your efforts to use sport as means to reach out and uplift those individuals living with and battling through cancer.

Today we officially integrated the Grade 8’s as Jeppe Girls.

Mrs Bhagwan reminded our Grade 8’s what it means to be a Jeppe Girl… She asked them to empower themselves to be best version of self and embrace every academic, sport, and cultural opportunity they receive at the school.

The girls were reminded that respect, kindness and understanding of others is what makes a ‘good sister’.

The Grade 8’s were given their name badges and a light, symbolic of their own unique light, that they will let shine as Jeppe Girls.

We wish the Grade 8 Class of 2024 a blessed and fulfilled journey at Jeppe Girls filled with light and magical memories.

Today we kicked off this year’s Blanket Drive launch for @67blankets for Nelson Mandela Day.

We were blown away by a very special visitor, @timothymoloi , to motivate and inspire our Jeppe Girls and our greater community to participate in something bigger than ourselves.

He reminded us of this privilege, that we are able to give back creatively, with our time and our energy and show people who truly need it that they are cared for in ways they never thought possible…

Mrs Carole Heming, former PRO manager, joined us and gave our girls a brief history of Jeppe Girls involvement in 67 Blankets over the years. Jeppe Girls has contributed over 4000 blankets to @67blankets and we are humbled and excited to continue to be part of this life-changing initiative.

Today we celebrated our girls hard work, commitment and excellence at prize-giving for the academic, cultural and sporting achievements for 2023.

We were joined by former Jeppe Headgirl (2010), Time Magazine Top 100 most influential people in AI 2023, TED speaker and CEO of Lelapa AI, Pelonomi Moiloa who inspired all our learners and top achievers to choose a life with many options, to do difficult things with curiosity and to call on their inner Jeppe Girl and remember ‘nothing is too difficult for the brave’.

The 2024 Councillors were inducted in today’s assembly making their pledge; committing to uphold the values and traditions of the school by their own example, to be honest and just, sympathetic and helpful. To be loyal and co-operative. To put service before self and to carry out their duties to the best of their abilities.

Our Head Girl, Ukamaka Uzoma addressed the school for the first time and congratulated her fellow councillors. “Each one of you is beyond deserving of being seated on this stage today. As we lead the school, remember that your abilities are endless, your strength is admired and your talents are timeless.”

Mrs Bhagwan, Headmistress of the school said, “We are delighted by the outstanding results achieved by our learners. In our first assembly for the year we were privileged to welcome Tanita Ramburuth-Hurt back to the school to inspire our learners as they begin their school year.

Tanita matriculated in 2012 and studied physics, applied maths and astrophysics at @wits__university and completed a masters in astrophysics. In 2020 she taught EMS and maths at Jeppe girls for 7 months before moving to Geneva to start her doctorate degree in astrophysics.

Some of our Grade 12 and 11’s were lucky to get some extra time with Tanita🤩
