Ruth First came from an immigrant background but went on to lead an extaordinary life. An outstanding writer, intellectual and political thinker, this brave and unconventional woman shunned a comfortable and privelidged life to become a formidable leader in the anti-apartheid struggle. She matriculated in the 1940s.

Jules Newton,

leading SA blood researcher;

Jelena and Milena Smolic who have both qualified in physics at Wits and are working at the forefront of physics research;

Sade Giliberti - spent ten years as a presenter on SABC1's YoTV before moving on to acting, producing and lecturing. She recently hosted SABC1's reality show "So You Think You Can Dance"

Bianca Dias
was awarded a scholarship for the first year of study as one of the Top 10 students entering the University of the Witwatersrand in 2008;

Mooniq Shaikjee
wrote A Cheetah’s tears which was published in The African Road – New writing from Southern Africa 2006;
