Ann Thaning (nee Fairlie) Ann Thaning was first awarded Springbok colours at the age of 13. She held 3 world records in backstroke in 1966 in Kimberley, Beziers (France) and Vancouver. She held 19 SA records in backstroke, freestyle and individual medley. Ann qualified as a physiotherapist in 1972 and is currently in private practice in the Cape together with 2 colleagues and 20 associated physiotherapists. Ann has remained a keen sportswoman, playing provincial squash for many years. She has enjoyed cycling in latter years and her best time in the Argus cycle tour is 2hours 55mins. She has two children - Kirsten, aged 34 who is a Physician and Karl, aged 32 who is an actor. She has one grandson.(Updated 2009). |
