Hockey
Hockey is a well established sport at Jeppe and will be one of our main focal areas over the next few years, encouraging participation, hosting training clinics and improving the skills of our learners. The squad is comprised of 8 teams, 2 in each age group. Jeppe participates competitively a school hockey league and enters the Pullen/Howell tournament every year.

A number of our girls have been successful in provincial trials in all age groups.

U/14 players are able to play hockey and netball in Term 2.

2011 Report
We had an eventful season this year. We kicked off in February with pre-season training followed by a grueling trials session that quickly put the girls through the paces and tested their skills and fitness.  Junior and senior teams were selected and from there, it was time for a rigorous twice weekly training schedule before the start of the season in the 2nd term.

Jeppe played in a very competitive league playing against both government and private schools.  The Under 16 team – coached by Rowan Ray – was most successful winning all their matches this season, followed by the u15 team who had 2 wins and a draw in their successes. The ultimate challenge came at the end of the season where both the Under 16 and First team competed in the Pullen/Howell Tournament.  For any hockey lovers, this was an amazing tournament played on one day in a round-robin format at St.Stithians and St. Andrews schools respectively. The following week the Under 16 team played the 7th and 8th playoff game and the First team played the 13th and 14th playoff game.

After the season was complete, many players still felt the need to continue playing and so began off-season training led by Rowan Ray and Kelly Nesbitt, the Under 16 and Under 18 coaches respectively.  Throughout the 3rd and 4th term, our future SA national players have been hitting the astro hard as they keep fit, perfect and learn new hockey skills.  Our 1st hockey team will be attending the Kearsney College Hockey Festival in Kwa-Zulu Natal at the end of March next year. If any hockey “lovers” would like to help our team by sponsoring bits and pieces for the tour, please contact the sport administrator at the school It was a long and trying season especially for our Matric players and they are wished every success for their hockey seasons and teams. We are looking forward to a good 2012 season.
