The grade 8 art classes designed and created their own hats out of recyclable materials – making use of plastic, bottle tops, cardboard, paper mache, buttons, paperclips and anything they could get their hands on. Their attention to detail was meticulous. Twenty eight finalists were chosen and they paraded their hats on stage in assembly. For the first time at the school, we had a fashion designer assisting with the judging. Suzanne Heyns chose the top two hats, seen here with their creators Sinenhlanhle Khokolo and Catherine Habig.
